Version 2023.1 (Updated January 5, 2023)

Norcal32 Rules are currently being utilized by High Sierra Speedway, Glen Canyon Raceway, and MoTown Raceway.

A. Guides & Wiring

    1. Guides may be changed to any commercially available 1/32 specific guide
      1. Guide position must remain in the factory location
      2. Weighted guides not permitted
      3. Guide may have a maximum keel length of 26mm
  • Rule goes into effect March 1st, 2023 — Please modify cars as necessary
    1. Guides spacers allowed
  1. Wiring is open
  2. Braid is open 

B. Body

  1. Body may not be modified or lightened, and must include all the original pieces intended by the manufacturer
    1. Fender radius and body proportions cannot be modified in any way (heating/melting, etc)
  2. Body must have all components of the original interior with driver, painting and decorating strongly encouraged
  3. Body posts may be reinforced to prevent breaking
  4. Tires and wheels may not protrude beyond the top of the fender radius when looking at the car from above
  5. Chassis perimeter may be deburred to allow body float in specified classes
  6. Any type, length or material of body screws allowed
  7. Bodies must have three clearly apparent numbers, and attempt to resemble their full scale counterparts
    1. Fantasy liveries highly encouraged
    2. Unpainted, unfinished, and non-scale looking vehicles highly discouraged
  8. Cars must start the race with all wings, assemblies, and aesthetic elements properly mounted and intact
    1. Cars that break mid race due to no fault of the driver or mechanic shall not incur any penalties unless deemed appropriate by the race director / track owner

C. Wheels & Tires

  1. Alloy rear wheels allowed
    1. Air/non-air specified within each class
  2. “F1” size wheels (⌀= 13.0 – 14.0mm) are allowed only in the “F1” classes
  3. Rubber tires only in all classes
    1. Tires may be glued to the rim, and trued
  4. Front tires may be “coated” to decrease traction
  5. Wheel inserts (“hubcaps”) are required front and rear on all classes

D. Pods & Motor Mounts

  1. Motor may be glued and/or screwed in to chassis or pod
  2. Pods must be original “offset” unless otherwise specified
  3. Pods must be original spec configuration unless otherwise specified
    1. IE: Inline, anglewinder, sidewinder
  4. Pods may be taped (for dampening)
    1. Weighted tape (tennis/golf tape) not allowed
  5. “Suspension” strictly prohibited

E. Drivetrain

  1. Motors specified on a class by class basis
    1. Motors may not be modified
      1. Modification includes opening, cutting the comm, balancing, or performance enhancements outside of the factory intended configuration
      2. Motors must maintain their factory label with clearly identifiable RPM spec
        1. Labels may be removed/worn on the bottom of the car for track clearance
    2. Motor break in permitted
  2. Plastic or Brass bushings only
    1. Ball bearings are not allowed in the chassis
    2. Some classes may allow ball bearing motors (See classes for details)
  3. Axles must be steel
    1. 3/32 (2.38mm) axles only, unless otherwise specified
    2. Hollow axles not allowed, unless otherwise specified
    3. Non-hollow “coated” axles OK

F. Chassis & Ballast

  1. Chassis must be “stock” or “stock replacement” unless otherwise specified
    1. “Stock replacement” in instances like slot.it updated chassis etc
  2. Drivers may add weight for ballast to both the chassis and pods
    1. Ballast may be Lead, Lead-Tungsten, or Tungsten
    2. Ballast may not be mounted under the chassis
    3. Ballast must “captured” between the chassis and body
  3. Chassis and pod may be deburred to remove molding imperfections
  4. Any type, length or material of chassis/pod screws allowed

G. Clearances

  1. Cars must clear a minimum of distance from the bottommost point on the car to the track in order to:
    1. Protect the track from damage
    2. Ensure a level playing field
  2. Clearance will be measured at the chassis and at the lowest point of the gear
    1. Rear of the car must be at least .032” from the track surface
    2. Metal gears must be at least .020” from the track surface
    3. Cars that do not pass the minimum clearance will be sent back to the pits to be fixed
    4. Cars that are deemed to drag the track during a race may risk black flag / exclusion at race directors discretion
  1. Note: Individual classes may supersede some of these rules, but will be clearly defined in the rules for that class.

Racing Etiquette

A. Turn-marshaling

    1. Drivers shall make all attempts to turn-marshal during race day as specified by the race director
    2. Drivers who do not participate in turn-marshaling face potential penalties as chosen by the race director and/or track owner
    3. Drivers shall not turn-marshal their own car while driving, unless absolutely necessary
      1. OK Example: Driving at Motown, and coming out of the slot on the straightaway with no turn marshall being present, self marshall to prevent track call
      2. NOT OK Example: Reaching across the drivers stand at Silicon City Speedway in the hairpin to self-marshall a car before a marshall can retrieve it

B. Driver Etiquette

    1. Drivers shall not yell, demean, or slander turn-marshalls or the race director while on the drivers panel
    2. Drivers and spectators shall not call out lap times, or engage in otherwise distracting conduct towards other drivers while racing
    3. The race director / track owner has final say

C. Track Calls

    1. Drivers are encouraged to not call track for their own vehicle unless absolutely imperative
    2. Track calls are generally accepted for:
      1. Car(s) off the track and on the floor in a difficult spot to reach
      2. Cars in an unmarshalable position, often in a straightaway or tunnel
      3. Cars in another drivers lane, aka a “Rider”
      4. Inspection of the track for debris or braid issues
    3. Track Owners / Race Directors have final say over what is a “track call” at their venue

A. Eligible Cars

Any currently available or previously available Racer Sideways Group 5 Car

B. Chassis & Pod

  1. Chassis
    1. Stock, unmodified only OEM Racer Sideways Chassis only
      1. No “Hard” chassis allowed
    2. Tape may be used on the bottom of the chassis
    3. Weighted tape not allowed
  2. Pod:
    1. May use any hardness or offset of OEM Racer Sideways Group 5 (or GT) Pod
    2. May replace OEM pod with Slot.it Pod of any offset or hardness (so long as it remains anglewinder configuration)
      1. Slot.it carbon pod not allowed
      2. Must run OEM style spherical bushings only, no bearings allowed
        1. May replace spherical bushings with Slot.it, Sloting+, etc so long as they maintain their original design integrity
      3. Axle tubes or upright braces not allowed
  3. Screws:
    1. Any Aluminum, steel or brass screws allowed; Screws cannot drag on the track
  4. Suspension:
    1. Not allowed

C. Drivetrain

  1. Motors
    1. Must run stock, or OEM stock replacement, Racer Sideways Group 5 Motor
      1. Motor: Slot.it Flat-6 20.5K rpm
  2. Gearing
    1. Must run stock Racer Sideways gears and ratio
      1. Replacement gears of the same ratio may pass tech at race directors discretion, but discouraged

D. Wheels & Tires

  1. Wheels:
    1. Rear Wheels:
      1. May use any plastic, aluminum, or magnesium wheel (air or non-air) with a minimum manufacturer designated diameter of 15.8mm
      2. Wheel width may not exceed 10.2mm
      3. Cars should maintain their original “scale appearance” as much as possible
    2. Front Wheels:
      1. Must use stock press on front wheels, or aluminum replacements of same size/width
    3. Tires:
      1. Any rubber tire is allowed, and front tires may be coated to reduce grip
      2. Front tires may not be narrowed beyond the lip of the wheel
      3. Maximum rear tire width 11mm (manufacturer’s specification)
    4. Wheel Inserts:
      1. Front wheels must have wheel inserts, rear wheel inserts encouraged.

E. Axles & Bushings

  1. Any steel non-hollow axle
  2. Spherical Slot.it style bushings only
  3. Ball Bearings are not allowed
  4. Front axles may be adjusted only with set screws, no bushings allowed

F. Guide

  1. Must be commercially available and designed for plastic 1/32nd scale cars
    1. 26mm Maximum Guide Keel Length
  2. Wiring & Braid: Open

F. Ballast

  1. Lead or tungsten only, No Brass
    1. Tip: We recommend the Slot.it Molded Tungsten weights both front and rear.
  2. Must be on the inside of the chassis and covered by the body
  3. Primary purpose of ballast must be to add weight, not stiffen chassis

G. Body

  1. Body and interior may not be modified or lightened
  2. Wing must be securely attached at the start of the race
  3. Tear Resistant Wings are allowed, and recommended

H. Allowable Replacement Parts

  1. Motor: current replacement motor is Slot.it Flat 6 20500 RPM
  2. Pods: Racer Sideways Replacement Pods  and  Slot.it CH74 1mm Offset Pod

A. Eligible Cars

Any currently available or previously available Slot.it Group C car

B. Drivetrain

  1. Stock inline pod
    1. May run 0.0 or 0.5 offset.
    2. 1.0 Offset Not Legal (white pod).
  2. Stock motor and stock gears*(MX16 & Yellow Crown)
  3. Motors may not be modified or tampered with (break-in OK)
  4. Motors may be glued and/or screwed in place

C. Tires & Wheels

  1. Must use stock (or stock replacement of same spec) Group C wheels*
  2. Air wheels are prohibited
  3. Rubber tires only, any manufacturer
  4. Front tires may be coated, and may not be narrowed beyond the lip of the wheel
  5. Maximum rear tire width 11mm (manufacturer’s specification)
  6. Front wheels must have wheel inserts, rear wheel inserts encouraged.

D. Axles & Bushings

  1. Any steel non-hollow axle
  2. Spherical Slot.it bushings only
  3. Ball Bearings are not allowed
  4. Front axles may be adjusted only with set screws, no bushings allowed
  5. No axle stoppers or spacers allowed on rear axle

E. Chassis

  1. Stock, unmodified only
  2. Tape may be used on the bottom of the chassis
  3. Weighted tape not allowed
  4. Screws: Any Aluminum, steel or brass screws allowed; Screws cannot drag on the track

F. Guide

  1. Must be commercially available and designed for 32nd scale cars
    1. 26mm Maximum Guide Keel Length (Effective March 1, 2023)
  2. Wiring & Braid: Open

G. Ballast

  1. Lead or tungsten only, No Brass
    1. Tip: We recommend the Slot.it Molded Tungsten weights both front and rear.
  2. Must be on the inside of the chassis and covered by the body
  3. Primary purpose of ballast must be to add weight, not stiffen chassis

H. Body

  1. Body and interior may not be modified or lightened
  2. Wing must be securely attached at the start of the race
  3. Tear Resistant Wings are allowed, and recommended

I. Allowable Replacement Parts

  1. Motor: current replacement motor is Slot.it MX16
  2. Pod: Slot.it 0mm (CH13c) or .5mm (CH 110) 
    1. Both have been supplied stock on Gp C cars
  3. Wheels: Slot.it 15.8×8.2 or 16.5×8.2 aluminum non-air
    1. (W15808215A, W15808225A or W16508215A)
    2. Both sizes have been supplied stock on Gp C cars

NSR F1

A. Eligible Cars

  1. Any NSR Formula 86/89 car

B. Drivetrain

  1. Stock inline motor pod
  2. Stock motor and stock gears (NSR 6327BR 27t gear is allowed)
  3. Motors may not be modified (break-in OK)
  4. Motors may be glued and/or screwed in place
  5. Label may removed from the bottom of the motor for track clearance

C. Tires & Wheels

  1. Any NSR “F1” rear wheel (NSR 5021, 5022 or 5005)
  2. Rubber tires only
  3. Stock front wheels (13×8)
  4. Stock front tires (may be trued, but not narrowed beyond the edge of the rim)
  5. Front tires may be coated
  6. Stock NSR F1 inserts must be run front and rear
    1. May modify slightly to fit 14mm wheels

D. Axles

  1. Any steel. non-hollow axle
  2. Bearings and eccentric bushings are not allowed
  3. Front axles may be adjusted with set screws, no bushings allowed
  4. 68mm maximum width (stock rear axle spacers may be removed)
  5. Axle “stoppers” not allowed
  6. Axle spacers allowed

E. Chassis

  1. Stock, unmodified only (may remove some material on the top surface inside the chassis for ballasting)
  2. Tape may be used on the bottom of the chassis to limit pod movement
  3. Weighted tape not allowed
  4. Screws: Any brass, steel or aluminum screw is allowed. Screws may not drag on the track.

F. Guide

  1. Must be commercially available and designed for 32nd scale cars
    1. Screw-in wood guide recommended, such as (but not limited to)
      1. Slotinvasion
      2. Thunderslot
      3. NSR Wood Guide
    2. 26mm Maximum Guide Keel Length effective March 1, 2023
  2. Wiring and Braid: Open

G. Ballast

  1. Lead or tungsten only
  2. Must be on the inside of the chassis and covered by the body
  3. Primary purpose of ballast must be to add weight, not stiffen chassis

H. Body

  1. Body and interior may NOT be modified or lightened
  2. Wing must be securely attached at the start of the race
  3. Bodies should have three numbers and a realistic paint scheme (Fantasy Liveries welcome)

**Note If you think you are in a “Gray Area” of the rules, please ask and a decision will be made and the rules amended.

GT

GT is a classification of car that describes a late-model, modern “GT3” Style production car raced in series such as Blancpain, Le Mans and other American Endurance Series. The goal of this class is to provide a more open configuration that allows higher speeds, more customization, all while offering great racing. The car should have raced within the last 10 years.

Class Rules

  1. Drivetrain
    1. Motor: Spec NSR King 21 Evo3 Motor (Pink Label / Long Can)
      1. Motors may not be modified, or opened to make changes
      2. Motors must have original factory label with RPM listed
      3. Motors may be glued and/or screwed in place
  2. Gearing
    1. Open – any “M50” size gearing (**Open gearing goes into effect Mar 1, 2023)
      1. Specifically developed for 1/32 racing, ranging between 46-51 pitch
      2. Gears made by (but not limited to):
        1. SlotingPlus
        2. Slot.it
        3. NSR
        4. BlackArrow
        5. MRSlotcar
        6. Etc
           
  3. Tires, wheels
    1. Rear Wheel: Any aluminum wheel by any manufacturer, air wheel or otherwise, designed for 1/32 scale slot cars 
      1. Any width wheel allowed, so long as the wheel rim is flush with, or inside, the body lines
    2. Rear Tire: Any size, black rubber tire
      1. Tires must cover entire width of wheel
    3. Front Wheels: Any manufacturer, air wheel, or material
      1. Wheels must be minimum of 16mm Ø 
      2. Any width wheel allowed, so long as the wheel rim is flush with, or inside, the body lines
      3. Independent front wheel systems not allowed
  4. Front tires: Any size rubber front tire
    1. Tires may be coated with CA or Nail Polish to reduce traction
    2. Tires must cover entire width of wheel
  5. Wheel Inserts: Must run inserts both front and rear
    1. Must be firmly in place at the start of the race
    2. Wheel inserts that are lost during the race may result in a penalty should the race director determine they were not appropriately fastened to begin the race
  6. Axles
    1. Material: Any steel, non-hollow axle
    2. Size: 3/32 Only, any width
    3. Bushings/Bearings: Any bronze or nylon bushing
      1. Homemade axle tubes may be used between the rear bushings as support (Amendment 1/11/23)
      2. SlotingPlus Combi bushing highly recommended (SP053102)
        1. NSR & Sideways cars take 29.9mm width
      3. Front axle height may be adjusted with set screws, but no bushings allowed
    4. Independent Front Ends: Not allowed
  7. Screws
    1. Material: Any Aluminum, steel or brass screws allowed
    2. Location: Screws may only be located where intended by the OEM
  8. Chassis & Pod
    1. Chassis: Stock, OEM Stock Replacement of any stiffness
      1. 3d Printed Chassis are not permitted
    2. Tape: Tape may be used on the chassis
      1. Weighted/lead tape not allowed under the car
    3. Motor Pod: OEM Anglewinder Configuration, Any stiffness, Any Offset
    4. Traction Magnets: Not allowed
  9. Wiring, Braid and Guide
    1. Wiring: Any
    2. Guide: Must be commercially available 1/32 specific guide
      1. Maximum Guide Keel Length of 26mm effective March 1, 2023
      2. Weighted guides not allowed
    3. Braid: Any commercially available copper braid, silver plating allowed
  10. Ballast
    1. Material: Lead or Tungsten only
    2. Location: Must be on the “inside” of the chassis and fully covered by the body
    3. Purpose: Primary purpose of ballast must be to add weight, not to stiffen chassis or modify movement in any axis
  11. Body
    1. Body: Original, may not lighten or modify outside of “scale” openings
    2. Cockpit: Original, may not be modified or lightened
      1. Lexan interiors not allowed
    3. Wing: Must be securely attached at the start of the race
      1. OEM Tear Resistant & Rubber wings encouraged
      2. Wings that are lost during the race may result in a penalty should the race director determine they were not appropriately fastened to begin the race
    4. Livery: Body must have at least 3 scale sized numbers
      1. Fantasy Liveries encouraged
