Slot Car Racing Rules for Silicon Speedway

Updated May 2023 — Version 1.3

Classes being raced May through July 2023:

  1. Racer Sideways Group 5
  2. GT3
  3. NSR F1 86-89
  4. Le Mans Classics

General Rules for All Racing Classes

  1. Guides, Lead Wires, and Braid can be changed
    1. Guide keel length should not exceed 26mm
    2. Wood Guides recommended
      1. Slot routing accepts up to 7.5mm depth
  2. Body must remain stock
    1. No lightening, or modifying the original body as it was intended from the manufacturer, other than to generate body float
  3. Body Float allowed
  4. Fender radius cannot be modified by any means, including heating or sanding
  5. Tires cannot extend beyond body, except in open wheel classes like F1
  6. Gluing and truing of tires strongly recommended
  7. Front tires may be coated with Nail Polish or CA (or similar) to reduce traction
  8. Motor may be glued or screwed in place
  9. Lead and tungsten allowed for ballast
    1. Ballast must be captured between the body and the chassis, and not visible from the bottom of the car
  10. Clearance Rule (New for 2023) — Cars must run .032″ clearance between the chassis and reference plane measured under the rear axle (unless otherwise specified)

NSR Formula 1 ’86-’89

  1. Chassis
    1. As of May 1, 2023, Black OEM chassis only
  2. Body
    1. Body must remain stock and include all intended components
  3. Gearing and Motor
    1. Stock NSR King 21,4 motor only
    2. Stock NSR 10/28 gearing only
      1. May run brass or aluminum hub crown gear
  4. Wheels
    1. Must run NSR 13x10mm F1 wheels only
    2. Tire changes are allowed but must maintain stock width, 20x13mm maximum
      1. Tire will have overhang over the rim

Racer Sideways Group 5 Sports cars

  1. Any Group 5 classified car made by Racer Sideways
  2. Chassis:
    1. Must use the original stock chassis for the body used
    2. Pods may be changed to any hardness or offset Racer Sideways or Slot.it Pod
    3. Motor must be in angle-winder configuration
  3. Motor:
    1. Stock Flat 6 motor only (yellow label)
  4. Wheels:
    1. May run any OEM sized wheel, including air wheels
    2. Any manufacturer
    3. Hubcaps highly encouraged

GT3

(Same as Norcal32 rules, updated May 2023)

  1. Drivetrain
    1. Motor: Spec NSR King 21 Evo3 Motor (Pink Label / Long Can)
      1. Motors may not be modified, or opened to make changes
      2. Motors must have original factory label with RPM listed
      3. Motors may be glued and/or screwed in place
  2. Gearing
    1. Open – any “M50” size gearing (**Open gearing goes into effect Mar 1, 2023)
      1. Specifically developed for 1/32 racing, ranging between 46-51 pitch
      2. Gears made by (but not limited to):
        1. SlotingPlus
        2. Slot.it
        3. NSR
        4. BlackArrow
        5. MRSlotcar
        6. Etc
  3. Tires, wheels
    1. Rear Wheel: Any aluminum wheel by any manufacturer, air wheel or otherwise, designed for 1/32 scale slot cars
      1. Any width wheel allowed, so long as the wheel rim is flush with, or inside, the body lines
    2. Rear Tire: Any size, black rubber tire
      1. Tires must cover entire width of wheel
    3. Front Wheels: Any manufacturer, air wheel, or material
      1. Wheels must be minimum of 16mm Ø
      2. Any width wheel allowed, so long as the wheel rim is flush with, or inside, the body lines
      3. Independent front wheel systems not allowed
  4. Front tires: Any size rubber front tire
    1. Tires may be coated with CA or Nail Polish to reduce traction
    2. Tires must cover entire width of wheel
  5. Wheel Inserts: Must run inserts both front and rear
    1. Must be firmly in place at the start of the race
    2. Wheel inserts that are lost during the race may result in a penalty should the race director determine they were not appropriately fastened to begin the race
  6. Axles
    1. Material: Any steel, non-hollow axle
    2. Size: 3/32 Only, any width
    3. Bushings/Bearings: Any bronze or nylon bushing
      1. Homemade axle tubes may be used between the rear bushings as support (Amendment 1/11/23)
      2. SlotingPlus Combi bushing highly recommended (SP053102)
        1. NSR & Sideways cars take 29.9mm width
      3. Front axle height may be adjusted with set screws, but no bushings allowed
    4. Independent Front Ends: Not allowed
  7. Screws
    1. Material: Any Aluminum, steel or brass screws allowed
    2. Location: Screws may only be located where intended by the OEM
  8. Chassis & Pod
    1. Chassis: Stock, OEM Stock Replacement of any stiffness
      1. 3d Printed Chassis are not permitted
    2. Tape: Tape may be used on the chassis
      1. Weighted/lead tape not allowed under the car
    3. Motor Pod: OEM Anglewinder Configuration, Any stiffness, Any Offset
    4. Traction Magnets: Not allowed
  9. Wiring, Braid and Guide
    1. Wiring: Any
    2. Guide: Must be commercially available 1/32 specific guide
      1. Maximum Guide Keel Length of 26mm effective March 1, 2023
      2. Weighted guides not allowed
    3. Braid: Any commercially available copper braid, silver plating allowed
  10. Ballast
    1. Material: Lead or Tungsten only
    2. Location: Must be on the “inside” of the chassis and fully covered by the body
    3. Purpose: Primary purpose of ballast must be to add weight, not to stiffen chassis or modify movement in any axis
  11. Body
    1. Body: Original, may not lighten or modify outside of “scale” openings
    2. Cockpit: Original, may not be modified or lightened
      1. Lexan interiors not allowed
    3. Wing: Must be securely attached at the start of the race
      1. OEM Tear Resistant & Rubber wings encouraged
      2. Wings that are lost during the race may result in a penalty should the race director determine they were not appropriately fastened to begin the race
    4. Livery: Body must have at least 3 scale sized numbers
      1. Fantasy Liveries encouraged

Le Mans Classic 1965 -1980

  1. Any open or closed cockpit Le Mans Prototype by any slot car manufacturer
    1. Includes Mirage, Alfa, Lola T70, Porsche 908 or 917, GT40, P68, etc.
    2. Must have actually raced at Le Mans
  2. Chassis:
    1. May replace OEM chassis and pod
      1. May run any hardness
    2. 3D chassis and pods are permitted
  3. Gearing
    1. Original Gearing that came with the car
  4. Wheels & Tires:
    1. Open other than no Formula 1 sized wheels (13″ etc or labeled for F1)
    2. Any rubber tire
  5. Motor Limit:
    1. 21,5K max FC130 Can & Long Can Allowed
    2. Slot.it cars may run the factory 23k motor that comes with the car

Slot.It Modern LMP (Le Mans Prototype) 1995+

  1. Cars:
    1. Any LMP car made by Slot.it
  2. Chassis:
    1. Chassis must remain stock
      1. May substitute updated chassis (Evo versions)
    2. Pods can be changed
    3. Stock slot.it spherical bushings only
  3. Gearing:
    1. Must use stock gear ratio (11/28)
  4. Wheels:
    1. Must use wheels that closely resemble the dimensions of the original wheels the came with the car
    2. Air wheels are allowed
      1. 10mm max width
  5. Tires:
    1. Any rubber tire by any manufacturer, stock width (up to 10mm)
  6. Motor:
    1. Must run stock 20.5K flat 6 motor, yellow label

Scalextric/Carrera GT3, GTLM, GTE, GTD, GTPro

  1. Any Grand Touring (GT) model made by Scalextric or Carrera with FC130 motor can participate,

Ford GT (with slim can motor) excluded

  1. Rear tires can be changed, aluminum wheels of stock size with insert allowed.
  2. Motor Limit: Stock Motor that came in car (O.E.M.) or Predator 18K Short Can Motor

 

Slot.It Group C

  1. Any Group C era car made by Slot-It
  2. May substitute newer (non-lexan) light Slot-It interiors
  3. Chassis must remain stock, In Line Pod (may use 0.5mm offset version)
  4. Must use OEM 23K Motor, Stock Gearing (28 tooth yellow plastic crown with brass hub) and Wheels
  5. Tire changes allowed 10mm max width = same size as stock

Scalextric Classic Trans Am

  1. Any car from ’68 – ’74 that completed in the over 2.0 liter “Trans Am” series:
    1. Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Plymouth Barracuda, Mercury Cougar, AMC Javelin, Pontiac Firebird and Dodge Challenger
  1. Chassis must remain stock
  2. May use OEM Motor
  3. Predator 18K FC130 Can Motor may be substituted
  4. Stock Gearing and Axles
  5. Alloy wheels permitted on rear only, 15 x 8 mm rim width maximum
  6. Front rims and tires must be original
  7. Tires are open, 10mm width max
  8. Challenger, Cougar and Javelin may be lowered

 

CanAm Sportscars  ’66-’74

  1. Must be an Open Cockpit CanAm racer. Fly, Slot-It, NSR, ThunderSlot
  2. Chassis and Pods can be changed
  3. Open Gearing
  4. Rear Tires can be changed
  5. Motor Limit is 25K FC130 Short Can

 

Slot.It GT1

  1. Must use stock chassis, in-line or angle winder
  2. FC130 Short Can or Flat 6 Long Can
  3. Stock Wheels Front and Rear
  4. Stock Gearing Only
  5. Tire changes are Allowed
