MoTown Raceway in Modesto hosted the second race of our three race mini-series on Sunday, October 9th. Given the Sunday date, we expected a slightly smaller turnout than normal, but were only missing a couple individuals. Each class still had two full heats of each class, and racing did not disappoint.
The drivers meeting covered a few items:
- The new future third class: Revo Slot GT (Rules will be out shortly)
- Plans for future series races
- We discussed the creation of a slight split in the classes, potentially looking like this:
- NSR F1 & NSR F1 Pro
- Group C & Group C Pro
- Gene MoTown carrying some additional go fast parts for the track
Slot.it Group C
After the drivers meeting, racing got underway with Group C Qualifying. Gene had mentioned the track was slightly stickier than last time, but that didn’t stop Jim Rose from setting a blistering 6.31 with his Slot.it tires that were clearly the fastest down the straights. Once the results were in for Quali, racing got underway starting with the B main. The B main was super close and a fantastic race to watch. The top 4 were separated by only 4 laps.
Below, you’ll see a slightly different graphic than previously, in that we’ve split the results into the two heats (center), as well as indicated racer’s overall finishing order (left). Consider this a prototype of the Group C and Group C Pro results format.
Hunberto was able to eek out the win in the B by only 2 over Dustin but for most of the race Dustin was within a lap of taking the lead, with Richard and Big John close on their heels. Hunberto and Dustin’s finishes were good enough to put them in 6th and 7th overall respectively, bumping Franky down the results from the A.
The A main was a snooze fest for Jim Rose, who cruised to an easy 5 lap win over Ian and Herman who were on the same lap for second and third. Herman and Ian’s deal to always finish on the same lap continued from their Electric Dreams venture earlier this year. Ian debuted his new skinny tires, which were installed on both his and Herman’s car, while Jim ran his exceptionally treated “stock” tires. Ted Essy found the gap for fourth and was able to run his own race, 7 down from Herman and 4 up on Kiwi Mike. Kiwi rounded out the Top 5, with ex-IMCA racer Franky Valles putting himself in his first A main for Norcal32.
NSR F1 86-89
After Group C, the second race of the day was NSR F1 86-89. Qualifying saw Jim Rose take the early pole, but was unseated right at the end with Ian hitting a 5.79 to steal pole. The B main was a great race, and saw Dustin take the win after an incredible last heat to move into the lead from second. Humberto lost out on the win by 1 lap, and finished second, with Richard finishing on the final podium spot.
The A main once again saw Franky sneak in (Great work Franky!). Unfortunately for the field, Ian’s skinny tires were in a separate F1 class, putting him 10 up on second place, Ted Essy. Ted finished 5 ahead of Jim, who scored the last spot on the podium. Kiwi Mike and Herman battled in the mid-pack to finish fourth and fifth, with Dustin finishing well enough in the B to squeeze a 6th place out — Fantastic work!
We can’t wait to see you for the mini-series finale on November 5th, 2022 at Motown Raceway.
