Silicon Speedway — Norcal 1/32, Sept 24, 2022

Race Overview

Race Report

Eleven racers descended onto the mean streets of Silicone City Speedway on September 24th of 2022. As the second race back since Mike Andrew’s 2 months abroad, the air was filled with anticipation, excitement, and Zippo fumes. We were blessed to have a few new faces at the track, including Rudy of Slick7 fame (soon to be moving to Texas), Rudy Leon, and Gary (who is friends with Jerry). The door was open at 10 and the track quickly started getting rubbered in. The classes for the day began with Scalextric Carrera combo GT3 class, Slot.it Group C, Le Mans Classic, and NSR F1.

Scalextric Carrera GT3

The GT3 race is always fun as these cars are beautiful bricks that really require a delicate trigger and running a perfect race to ensure victory. Mike OD is quickly becoming the Carrera King with his cars placing 1, 2, and 3 on the podium. Ian managed to take the win over Jim by 1, followed by OD in his best performance in some time.

Slot.it Group C

As a staple at Silicone City and in the greater Norcal 32 scene, Slot.it Group C cars are always competitive on Mike’s track. Greg Kondrek’s freshly prepped Jagermeister 956 had him feeling ‘some type of way’ and he drove an excellent race to take the last step on the podium — Certainly his best effort yet in 32 racing in recent time. Jim finished in second with his FromA Porsche, and Ian was able to take the top spot once again with his Mugello Porsche 956.

The top three cars were all Porsche 956KH, because we like variety. (Left to Right) Greg Kondrek (3), Ian Douglass (1), Jim Rose (2)

Le Mans Classic

One of the most diverse classes at Silicone Speedway, Le Mans classic is growing in popularity quickly. Jim Rose took off like a rocket to start, with a car that was the definition of dialed. Jim finished 3 laps up over Mike. Mike Andrew’s beautiful Martini Porsche couldn’t quite compete with the grip that Jim had, and finished a comfortable second, 1 lap ahead of Paul Leuty. Paul ran a clean race in another P-car 908, and managed to finish out the top 3, one lap ahead of Mike OD in a brand new Lola T70.

NSR F1

NSR F1 was the last race of the day, and with the combination of awesome BBQ burgers, some mid-eighties temps, and lots of G’s being pulled around the track, we lost a couple racers due to fatigue. The F1 race was a bit of a slugfest, with Jim eeking out Ian by 1 for the top step on the Podium. Ian finished three ahead of Mike Andrews to round out the top 3.
