Race Overview

Saturday brought eight excited racers to Thunder Road Speedway on a perfect Northern California day. The turnout was lower than usual due to other obligations by several racers, but we still had enough to run four classes on the 80 foot Bowman road course. After an hour of practice, we were ready for action.

First up were the TFX hard body cars, the slowest and most challenging class to drive. When the dust settled, Ted managed a two lap victory over the always fast Bruce Douglass with Shaun Lee picking up third place.

Up next were the Viper Jets, running at 12 volts to keep them on the track despite the lack of traction magnets. Greg showed us the fast way around the track, winning by three over Ted and Bruce in third. After a tasty lunch consisting of roasted pork sandwiches, salads, potatoes and fruit, it was time for a nap LOL.

Regardless, the Tyco IROC muscle cars were third on the schedule. These cars are heavily modified with 3 ohm arms and Pro 4 motor and traction mags, making them almost as fast as the fastest level 4 Viper cars. Greg picked up his second win on the day winning by one over George Peters and two over Ted for the last podium spot.

The final class was the Viper level 4 lexan class, running at 15 volts and turning lap times in the low 4 second range. Shaun got out to a fast start with everyone else having trouble, earning a seven lap lead and never looking back for his first win here at Thunder Road. Bruce was three back with Greg on the same lap for third.

Thanks to everyone that was able to attend, and look for upcoming posts regarding the new 1/32 scale track that Bob Scott should deliver later this week.
